A 32-year-old man, on his way to a wedding ceremony, stopped by a retail chain outlet to buy  some gifts, but ended up in hospital after being assaulted by some customers at the store.

Arun, a businessman, stopped by More Mega Mart in Anand Arcade, Varthur Main Road in Mahadevapura Outer Ring Road.

After buying two items, he waited for his turn at the express cash counter (meant only for less than five items). However, he noticed some customers approaching the counter had more than ten items.

When he informed this to the cashier, she asked the customers to shift to another counter.

Three customers, who were asked to stand in another queue, threatened Arun, setting stage for a quarrel. Arun retorted that he does not have time for this kind of trivial argument as he was getting late to the wedding.

But the customers lost their patience and one started beating him up. “I was punched . Then my vision was blurred and I am not entirely sure if they assaulted me with a metal piece. But I  distinctly recall a 60-year-old man beat me constantly,” said Arun.

The store employees nor their eight security staff made an attempt to prevent the assault. Other customers came to the rescue  and stopped the fight.

“My head and face are injured. The store manager came to the cash counter after they assaulted me,” he said.

Mahadevapura police reached the spot after Arun informed them over the phone. The accused and the victim were taken to the police station. After primary treatment at Sai Krupa Nursing Home, Arun registered a case. The police arrested Ratnam Naidu and Devaraj, based on Arun’s complaint.

“The doctors did a CT scan and other tests. My skull has been fractured,” said Arun. GB Manjunath, assistant commissioner of police (Ulsoor sub-division), has ordered Mahadevapura police to take immediate action against the accused.
