The body of a 47-year-old man was found in a car on the Sola high court road on Monday night. The deceased has been identified as Darshanbhai Pandya, the director of the marketing department of Gunjan Paints Ltd.
The incident came to light when the police inspector of the Sola police station was informed of the body lying in the car. A source said that the Pandya had been murdered in a half-an-hour period between the time that he set off for his home from his office located at New York Tower on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar at 7.45 pm.
Pandya, a resident of Shanti Apartments located near Dakshini Society at Maninagar, was found dead in the back seat of the car (GJ-1-HK-8624). Police officials received a call at around 8.20 pm on Monday, informing them of the body lying in the car.
Experts at the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) said that a knife has been recovered from inside the car. However, no bloodstains have been found in the knife, indicating that the knife used to kill Pandya has been disposed of. Experts said that the knife found inside the car may have been used by Pandya to defend himself. Signs of struggle were seen on the front window of the car. Pandya had been stabbed several times, a source said. The front seat of the car was also found pushed back.
Police officials, including DCP (zone-1) Brijesh Kumar Jha, arrived at the spot to review the situation. The dog squad led the police to bushes near Chankayapuri after reaching the spot.
