Man escapes from Tihar jail after producing fake court orders

A man who hails from Gujarat and faces charges of kidnapping, escaped from Tihar Jail, where he was lodged, after producing fake court orders, an incident reminiscent of the way in which the alleged killer of bandit queen Phoolan Devi fled.

Sandeep Parmar of Gujarat, who was arrested by Delhi Police in 2008, fled on February 10 after producing fake interim bail orders. He was lodged in Jail No 10, sources said.

After jail authorities informed the police about the incident, a case was registered on February 12. Parmar allegedly produced court orders "signed, sealed and stamped by District Judge M K Kaushik", a senior jail official said.

However, he refused to take the blame saying he produced court orders and his escape is not their fault. The incident came to light when relatives of Parmar's co-accused Sandeep Singh approached the jail authorities with interim bail orders.

Sandeep Singh's relatives demanded his release and produced genuine papers. Upon suspicion, jail authorities approached the judge regarding the papers of Parmar. The judge denied he had signed them.He also asked jail officials to approach the police.
