Man dies in police custody in Uttar Pradesh, murder case against policemen

While policemen claimed that Dhirendra alias Veeru committed suicide inside the cell, family members and villagers claimed that he was killed.

A man detained in connection with a double murder case died in custody in the district following which authorities registered a murder case against five policemen and ordered a magisterial probe into the matter.
           
Dhirendra alias Veeru was detained five days back in connection with a double murder case in Bahadurgarh police station in the district, SSP Raghubir Lal today said.
           
Dhirendra died in custody yesterday.While policemen claimed that Dhirendra committed suicide inside the cell, family members and villagers claimed that he was killed.
           
Dhirendra's family members and villagers blocked the road near Garmukteshar, 80 kms from here, to protest the custodial death.
           
After the public protest, a murder case was registered against the five policemen.
       
District magistrate R Ramesh Kumar ordered a magisterial probe into the entire episode and ordered that Rs40,000 to be immediately given to the family of the deceased.
       
SDM Puspha Devrar had ordered a postmortem under a medical panel of three doctors. Videography was also conducted at the time of the postmortem last night.
       
Meanwhile, local MLA Madan Chouhan has asked chief minister Mayawati to sanction Rs10 lakh from the chief minister's fund to Dhirender's family as he was the sole earning member.
