Man attacks wife with axe; injures her grievously

A man in Surat, on Wednesday, attacked his wife with an axe as he suspected her of having an extra-marital affair. The condition of the wife, who was struck on the face, is said to be serious.
Ravindra Koli, a resident of Surya Nagar in Punagam, suspected his wife Sunita of having an affair with a man working at her factory.

Koli hit his wife Sunita at his house on Wednesday morning and caused her serious injuries. She sustained wounds on the right side of her face and also suffered a fracture on the right lower jaw.
After hitting Sunita, Koli fled the house. His wife was rushed to SMIMER Hospital, where the doctors termed her condition serious.

In order to sustain the family, Sunita worked as a casual labourer at a jari unit located near her house.

Sources said Koli, who works as a diamond polisher, doubted his wife's character and used to comment offensively about her character. This would often result in heated arguments between the two. An argument of this kind erupted on Wednesday morning when Koli accused Sunita of 'being a prostitute'. When Sunita objected to the allegation, an enraged Koli attacked her with an axe.

Based on Sunita's statement, Punagam police have registered a case against Koli and are investigating the matter. Cops arrested Koli late in the evening.
