Malaria claims 2 more lives in Ahmedabad

Malaria and Falciparum continue to create havoc in Ahmedabad and has claimed a dozen lives since January.

As people are preparing for Diwali celebrations, the deadly malaria is continuing to create havoc for them. On Tuesday, two people died of malaria in the city. Of the two deaths, one was due to normal malaria and the other due to Falciparum.

The two deaths have raised concerns not only among people but also among health officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). As no malaria death was reported in the recent past, it was believed that the danger was subsiding. But the latest incidents have called for effective measures to curb the menace. 

Besides the deaths, the city reported 22 cases of Falciparum, 18 cases of malaria and 14 cases of dengue on Tuesday. Even on Monday, the figures were high with 22 malaria cases, 28 Falciparum cases and 31 dengue cases.

Since January, malaria has claimed 12 lives and Falciparum 43 lives. In October, the number of malaria cases recorded in the municipal hospitals is 132 and the number of   Falciparum cases, 182. Similarly, the figures since January are 6,322 and 1,388. On Monday, 31 dengue cases were registered in the municipal hospitals of the city.
