In a major setback to Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), former minister Nawab Kokab Hamid resigned from the party on Saturday.

RLD has lost the confidence of people, and on the request of my supporters I have decided to part ways with the party, he told reporters in Meerut on Saturday.

Hamid said that he would soon announce his next political move. He denied any differences with RLD chief Ajit Singh or any other party leader.

Hamid was associated with the party for the last 15 years and was leader of RLD's legislature party in the last Assembly.

However, he was defeated by BSP's Hemlata Chaudhary in the recent assembly polls in the state by a margin of 7000 votes.
