The state government is planning to effect changes in key posts of the police department, including that of the in-charge DGP and Ahmedabad police commissioner. In the state-wide exercise, the government plans to shift at least 22 IPS officers, 23 DySPs and over 30 inspectors.

According to sources, the government will shift in-charge DGP Chitranjan Singh as it is fed up with numerous complaints it has received against him. The government had to appoint Singh as in-charge DGP as it had no other way.  In the event of Singh being moved from his current post, city commissioner SK Saikia is most likely to be made regular DGP. Saikia has remained non-controversial and he prefers to stay away from the media, something that the government likes.

To fill the post of Ahmedabad commissioner, JCP (DCB) Mohan Jha and additional DGP (Jails) PC Thakur are the frontrunners. It may also so happen that Jha may be moved out of Ahmedabad city.
Other important changes will include DCP (Crime) Himanshu Shukla, Zone V DCP Parikshita Rathod, JCP (Traffic) Satish Verma, and Ahmedabad (Rural) DSP Rajeev Ranjan Bhagat. Verma investigated Ishrat Jahan encounter case.

Others include Rajkot police commissioner Geetha Johri, SP in state crime records bureau MM Anarwala, and Banaskantha DSP SM Katara. Anarwala, who was earlier DCP (Traffic) in the city, may come back to the city, and so also Katara who was earlier Zone II DCP.

While few of the 22 IPS officers have requested for transfer, others will be shifted as part of the government procedures. Apart from the IPS officers, 23 DySP-level officers will be transferred. Also, more than 30 PIs will be either transferred or promoted and transferred. Besides, lower-rank officers will also be transferred.
