Main accused in Uttar Pradesh dalit girl attack case held

Police today arrested Shivom, the main accused in the attack on a 16-year-old girl who resisted a rape attempt in Bindaki area.

The police also recovered the axe used to inflict serious wounds on her face, head and hand, superintendent of police Ram Bharose said.

Shivom, 25, is the second person to be arrested in the case after Harishanker was nabbed yesterday. The third accused, Ram Ratan, is still absconding.

The SP said that on the basis of the complaint filed by the girl's father, an FIR under section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) has been lodged.
