Ghatlodia police are on the look-out for a housemaid who allegedly stole a large amount of gold from the house where she worked. She allegedly made away with ornaments worth Rs9.23 lakh, while the owners were away.

According to the complaint filed by one Bharati Manoj Kapoor, the theft occurred at her residence at Forum Apartments in Memnagar, while the family was out of town.

Bharati, 33, stated that a maid named Payal (Pinky) allegedly stole the gold ornaments on the afternoon of December 13,when the former and her husband went to Satellite area to meet her father-in-law, to plan a trip to Haridwar. Bharati had locked her house and given the keys to her neighbour Karinaben, so that her maid could come and finish her work in the afternoon before they left for their trip. Pinky gave the keys back to Karina after she was done with the household chores.

Bharati and her family started packing and left for Haridwar the next day. When the family returned to city a few days back, Bharati had called Pinky to restart her work. However, Pinky's phone was switched off. Bharati called the maid again after two days, and told her to collect her dues. After answering that call, Pinky's phone had been switched off.

Bharati thought the maid's behaviour to be odd and checked all the valuables in the house. That is when she realised that gold ornaments worth Rs9.23 lakh, kept under her bed, were missing.
