Pawar who also holds the power portfolio said that against the demand of 15,000 MW of power in the state, 16,000 MW of power would be generated by Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited and various other sources like solar, hydel and private players by the year-end.
During a debate in the council on budget presented by him on Monday, Pawar told the opposition benches that electricity would not be an issue during the 2014 elections.
Calling on the Opposition to adopt a positive approach, he said on the development of various cities like Nagpur, Mumbai, Nashik, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, the opposition and government should come together to solve the problems.
"There are no elections for the next two years and therefore we should try to solve the problems of these cities together," he added.
Pawar also said that the proposed Jaitapur nuclear power plant project in Konkan’s Ratnagiri district is the need of the hour.
"Coal stocks will be over one day, Water (hydel power), wind have some limitations. If there is no power, there will be no industries and if there are no industries, there would be no jobs…. Therefore, developmental projects should not be opposed," he urged.
He also promised that in the next two years electricity connection will be given to whosoever asks for it.
Assuring the farmers that the government would always come in their support he said, "We represent farmers…when they are in difficulty we make sure that funds are made available for them."
