Maha govt to facilitate finance to mill-workers for houses

Maharashtra Government is keen to ensure that home loans are made available to eligible mill workers of defunct textile mills easily, it said today.

Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan held a meeting with the housing department officials on Monday to discuss facilitation of funds to the mill workers, official sources said.

Chavan sought to know if home loans would be given to the mill workers if 10 per cent of the total flat cost was paid. The CM would discuss the matter with bodies such as HDFC and others, sources said.

The eligible applicants will have to purchase the houses at Rs eight lakh. "The state government is also considering whether any subsidy can be granted from central schemes," sources said.

At present, 6,700 tenements are ready to be distributed. Total of 25,000 tenements can be constructed on the land available with the government; total number of applications is 1.20 lakh.

The Chief Minister has also asked housing department officials to prepare a detailed report on the cessed buildings in Mumbai. Sources quoted Chavan as saying that if such database were available on google earth/maps, it will attract large number of developers in the housing sector.

He also said that the information would help the government to take decision on FSI to be given for re-development of such buildings.
