M Veerappa Moily hints at crackdown on DCI, AICTE

Union law minister M Veerappa Moily today said the government would enact a law to ensure that higher education regulatory bodies function impartially and free of corruption.

Moily also hinted at the possibility of cracking down on the Dental Council of India (DCI) and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) as has been done in the case of Medical Council of India (MCI).

"MCI has been superceded. We have appointed a committee (in its place)," he told reporters in Bangalore.

"Whether it's MCI, DCI or AICTE, we will enact a legislation to see that they function impartially, free of corruption and cheating," he said.

He pointed out that cases had been filed against AICTE chairman professor RA Yadav, who has been suspended on corruption
charges.
