Lokayukta recovers Rs 5-cr assets from MP Jail Superintendent

Sleuths of Lokayukta police on Thursday raided the houses of Jail Superintendent Purushottam Somkunwar here and recovered assets worth Rs 5 crores, disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Over 40 sleuths of Special Establishment of Lokyukta raided places of Somkunwar at the Railway Colony here since morning, Superintendent of Police Virendra Singh told PTI.

In Bhopal, Somkunwar has got 3-5 start type bunglows, one hostel, four shops and five plots. In Indore, he has two plots, the SP said.

Besides, he owns 14 acres of land in Barwai, Palasi and Khamkhera apart from Rs 35 lakh worth house assets in Indore, the official said.

The accused who was interrogated by senior sleuths revealed Rs 7.64 lakh cash at home, Rs 70 lakh cash in bank accounts and LIC policy worth Rs 8.48 lakh, the SP said.

Three luxury four wheelers and a two wheelers were among other things in his assets, he said.

A separate team was also deployed at his jail office to verify the documents, the SP added.
