Light drizzles in northern India give respite to people from hot condition

Light rains lashed many parts of northern India today giving respite to people from the hot conditions even as Barmer in Rajasthan recorded a maximum of 43 degree celsius.

In Punjab and Haryana, maximum temperature remained below 40 degree celsius as Chandigarh, which received a rainfall of 0.5 mm, recorded a maximum of 38.2 degree C. 

Amritsar witnessed a drop in temperature by three degrees below normal to settle at 38.2 C, Met office said.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures of 38.2 and 39.6 degree C respectively.

Hisar in Haryana received a rainfall of 1.4 mm, bringing the maximum temperature down to 39.6 C. 

In Himachal Pradesh, downpours in lower and mid hills late last night brought relief to people from the heat wave. 

Reports of light rain in the tribal areas have also been received, the Met office said, adding Shimla recorded a day temperature of 26.4 degree celsius. 

However, parts of Rajasthan continued to face the heatwave condition even as light rains occurred in Jaipur division.

Barmer was reported as the hottest place in the state at 43 C followed by Kota at 41.8, the Met office said. 

Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Churu recorded maximum of 40.5, 40.3 and 40 C respectively while Jaipur, Ajmer and Bikaner recorded maximum of 39.9, 39.7 and 39.5 degree respectively.
