The Rajasthan High Court has issued notice to state's Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) chief in connection with purchase of land against norms in the city by his wife, observing that the case has to be investigated by an independent agency.

The case relates to purchase of two bigah of land by ACB chief DGP MK Devrajan's wife Bina Devrajan in June 2005 from a person who was not having power of attorney of the original seller of the land.

On a PIL the division bench observed, "It is a matter of an enquiry to be conducted by an independent agency for the reasons that the police officer, who will (otherwise) investigate this episode will certainly be under his (DGP) influence."

The division bench of justices RC Gandhi and GS Saraf yesterday also issued show cause notice to chief secretary, home secretary and department of personnel for the alleged involvement of Devrajan in the land purchase at Khonagoriyan village here.

"The state should take these things seriously as the officer is holding a very sensitive post of investigation. Corruption and misuse of office is fund involved in the commission of offences. The state may decide to refer its investigation to some agency like CBI," the court observed.
