Kishan Reddy to take over as president of Andhra Pradesh BJP

Announcement about the unanimous election of 44-year-old Reddy would be formally made tomorrow at BJP state council meeting of the party.

In tune with the BJP's resolve to encourage young leadership, G Kishan Reddy, an MLA, is all set to take over as the president of the saffron party in Andhra Pradesh.
           
Announcement about the unanimous election of 44-year-old Reddy would be formally made tomorrow at BJP state council meeting of the party.
           
No other person filed nomination for the post till the time for filing nominations expired this evening.
           
Three sets of nominations were filed today on Reddy's behalf with the returning officer for the election Ramnath Kovind, a former MP.
           
Reddy replaces Bandaru Dattatreya and he is out of group of senior leaders, including CH Vidyasagar Rao, N Indrasena Reddy and others who headed the party in Andhra Pradesh so far.
           
The National Council of BJP held last month gave indications that fresh faces would be inducted for the posts of office-bearers.
           
Reddy's unanimous election, however, came after several rounds of discussions BJP's in-charge for AP affairs Prakash Javadekar and other leaders held with the allegedly faction-ridden party's state unit leaders.
           
K Laxman, a former MLA from Musheerabad in Hyderabad, was seen as a prospective candidate for state BJP president's post but he appeared to have around. He was one of the leaders who filed a nomination for Reddy.
           
Reddy, who is considered close to senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu, is a two-time MLA and is currently representing Amberpet constituency in Hyderabad in the assembly.
           
Kishan Reddy joined the erstwhile Janata Party and became the president of its youth wing in 1977, a party release said.
           
He joined BJP in 1980 and held a number of positions right from the grass-roots level and became national president of BJP Yuva Morcha in 2002.
           
Reddy made a mark for himself in the assembly by effectively articulating the problems of the people.
