After Pradeep Kavishwar alias Pradeep Don was gunned down, the news spread in Bala Hanuman area like a wildfire. Tension gripped the people in the locality and traders immediately downed shutters of their shops. It being Sunday, most of the shops were closed, but Don's killing apparently shocked the people.
People came out of their houses on knowing about the incident and rushed to the spot where Don was shot at. Police from Khadia, Kalupur and Shaherkotda police stations also rushed to the locality and cordoned off the area. They were also joined by police personnel from crime branch. Many senior police officials, including crime branch DCP Abhay Chudasama and ACP (D Division) MJ Chavda, also visited the spot.
Pradeep Don, who is said be aged around 40 years, was unmarried and had been living with his brother, Atul Niranjan Kaviswar, and sister, Tripti. His brother owned a music shop, Kumar Electronics, at Hindak Ni Pole in Khadia. Police said Jignesh Soni, whose involvement is suspected in the murder, was Pradeep Don's friend and deals in share market. He is also said to be a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishad, the student wing of BJP. Sources said that some time back the duo had a confrontation over some issues.
Neighbours tightlipped
When DNA tried to talk to people in the area, no one was willing to talk about the deceased. Many outrightly rejected making a comment about Don, while others were not willing to say anything on record. However, some people said that they never encountered any bad experience with Don. One of the shopkeepers in the area said that many people did not even know Pradeep Don well enough.
Police: killers will be caught soon
The city police are quite hopeful of detecting the Pradeep Don murder case early. An eyewitness, Uday Upadhaya, has stated that 2 people, one identified as Jignesh Soni, were involved in the attack on Don. The police have also recovered a cellphone from the spot, which allegedly belongs to Soni. Police sources said the rivalry between Don and Soni was the reason behind the murder. ACP, 'D' Division, MJ Chavda said, "Police have raided several hideouts of Soni, besides his houses in Bopal and Khadia." They are also looking for another man, aged around 35 yrs, involved in the murder. The man was wearing a cream-coloured shirt and blue trousers.
ABVP denies links with Soni
Kunal Shah, former general secretary of Gujarat unit of the ABVP, said Jignesh Soni has no affiliation with the student organisation. He had fought students' union elections on ABVP ticket in past, Shah said. He, however, claimed that right now Soni had no ties with the ABVP. The ABVP has also intimated vice-chancellor of GU claiming that Jignesh was not a member of the students' body.
