This may appear to be a plot lifted from Bollywood potboiler, Khosla ka Ghosla, but is a hard truth that has pinched two owners whose flats worth Rs1 crore each were sold off  through bogus documents.

The two flats located in a posh locality were sold off without the consent of the owner. The fraud surfaced only when neighbours informed the owner, who currently resides elsewhere. One Himmat Kanani and his brother Shashikant , residing at Lajpatnagar in Navrangpura, owned two flats in Chandkheda's Subhashnagar. Five years ago, they had locked up the flats and moved to their present address.

However, a few days ago, one of their neighbours from Subhashnagar expressed interest in purchasing one of their flats. The neighbour was under the impression that the Kananis had sold off one of their flats to some one else, after seeing renovation was on at the house.

The neighbour apparently had rung up to voice his disappointment on not being informed about their intention to sell off the flat as he would have offered them a better deal.

The brothers were shocked to learn about this as they had not sanctioned the sale of either flat. Upon inquiring further, they realised that some one had defrauded them.

After digging around, the Kanani brothers found that a fraudster, one Morris Christian, a resident of Madhav society in Chandkheda, had forged ownership documents of both the flats and sold them for Rs1 crore. Morris sold one flat to his mother Dorris and the other to one Lucey Christian.

With this information in hand, the brothers approached the Chandkheda police and lodged a compliant on Friday.

The police found out that Moris was involved in several such frauds earlier as well, and many complaints were lodged in several other police stations against him. His accomplice, one Martin, is a government employee, cops said.

To forge the documents, Moris made bogus PAN cards in the names of Himmat and Shashikant, using fake thumb prints instead of their signatures.
