The Delhi high court today dismissed the bail plea of former president of Medical Council of India Ketan Desai, arrested by CBI for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs2 crore to grant recognition to a medical college in Punjab.

The court turned down the plea of Desai, who had sought interim bail to meet his ailing mother, saying that his wife is also a doctor who can look after her.

Justice Mukta Gupta said Desai cannot be released on bail as there were many complaints filed against him and investigations were on.

The court, however, granted relief to another accused JP Singh and directed that he be released on bail.

The court had yesterday reserved its order on Desai's plea, which was opposed by the CBI.

Desai and three others were arrested by CBI on April 23 on bribery charges.

Police had claimed that searches at various premises of Desai had allegedly led to recovery of huge amount of cash, investment documents and gold, all worth several crore of rupees.

The four, including two doctors from Punjab and an alleged Delhi-based tout, were booked by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption of Act, that deals with inducement of a public servant to accept bribe, criminal misconduct and payment of money.
