Taking a serious view of several Keralites being arrested in terror-related cases, the Kerala government plans to form a dedicated anti-terror investigation squad in the police.

The squad would be imparted specialised training and would act in co-ordination with various investigating agencies, governor RS Gavai said in his policy address to the state Assembly today.

The formation of a dedicated anti-terrorist wing in the state police is significant since several Keralite youths have been arrested in the last few years in terrorism-related cases, including T Nazeer, now in custody of Bangalore police.

With coastal security an area of special concern, the address noted that eight more coastal police stations would be set up soon across Kerala.

The state would actively co-operate with the National Investigation Agency while maintaining its commitment to the federal structure of the polity.
