Kerala reports 16 swine flu deaths in a month

Since May 15, there have been 201 laboratory confirmed cases in Kerala. Of the 16 deaths reported so far, nine were of pregnant women.

Kerala has borne the brunt of swine flu cases with the onset of monsoon this year, reporting 16 deaths since May 15 and prompting the Central government to send a team to the coastal state to assess the situation.
           
In the week June 8-June 14, Kerala has reported 10 of the 14 deaths due to the disease across the country.
           
Three deaths have been reported from Maharashtra and one from Karnataka.
           
Since May 15, there have been 201 laboratory confirmed cases in Kerala. Of the 16 deaths reported so far, nine were of pregnant women.
           
On the request of the state government, a three-member team was deputed for the state, health ministry officials said.
           
The state government has also requested the Union health ministry to facilitate distribution of H1N1 vaccine by to ensure its availability to public.
           
The first swine flu death was reported in the country on May 16 last year. Maharashtra reported the maximum number of H1N1 deaths last year.
