Kerala Government today asked the centre to fulfil its promise of setting up a cashew board at Kollam in the state for promoting cashew trade and export.
Replying to a calling attention in the assembly, minister for excise and in-charge of cashew, PK Gurudasan said the previous UPA government had promised to set up the cashew board in Kollam and even drafted a Bill for the same. But, some how things did not move further on the matter, he said.
After the present UPA government came to power, the state government took up the issue with prime minister Manmohan Singh.
He said the state would continue to put pressure on centre for the board, which would be a boost to the industry. Most of the cashew factories functioning in the state are located in Kollam and nearby areas.
