Karnataka high court stays lower court order on B S Yeddyurappa

The Karnataka high court today stayed an order of a local court which had taken cognisance of offences against chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, his family members and some others on a private complaint filed against them under the Provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Justice K N Keshavanarayan granted interim stay on a petition filed by Sohan Kumar, son-in-law of Yeddyurappa challenging the Lokayukta specail court judge's order.

Kumar, whose application seeking stay of the proceedings was rejected by the 23rd additional city civil and session court judge C B Hippargi last month, had challenged the order in the high court.

Kumar had submitted that the lower court had erred in taking cognisance of offences and contended that the private complaints filed by Sirajin Bhasha and another as "illegal, arbitrary and capricious and liable to be quashed".

On March 24, Lokayukta Special Court had ordered for an investigation into the one of the complaints by Lokayukta police and submit its report by May four.

Advocates Basha and K N Balaraj had filed five private compalints against Yeddyurappa and others accusing them of violating rules in denotification of land and sought their prosecution under the provision of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
