Dubbing as "drama" the proposal to settle the Ayodhya issue through reconciliation, temple movement leader Kalyan Singh today alleged that Congress welcoming the deferment of the verdict by the Supreme Court proved that it was in favour of delaying the judgement to serve its political gains.

Claiming that a solution to the problem was also not possible through negotiations, the former BJP leader said that several such attempts were made in the past but to no avail.

He termed the new proposal to settle the issue through reconciliation as a "drama".

"It is clear that on this issue, which is based on faith and belief, court also cannot find a universally acceptable solution," Singh, founder of the Jan Kranti Party, said in a statement issued in Lucknow.

Blaming the Congress, Singh said that its welcoming the deferment of the verdict by the Supreme Court proved that it (Congress) was in favour of delaying the judgment to serve its political gains.

Reiterating that there were only two options to solve the issue, he said that it could be either with Muslims giving up their claim over the land or through a law enacted by Parliament like the one in the Shah Bano case.

The Supreme Court had on September 23 deferred by a week the pronouncement of verdict in the Ayodhya title suit by the Allahabad high court.

The order came on a petition filed by retired bureaucrat Ramesh Chand Tripathi which pleaded for exploring the possibility of an out-of-court settlement on the 60-year-old Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit dispute.
