Former president APJ Abdul Kalam today shared his vision about Chandrayan-II, with IIM-A students during his theme lecture, 'Vision for Elevation of India by 2020', as part of Globalising Resurgent India through Innovative Transformation (GRIIT) course offered here.

"Dr Kalam during his class session today shared his vision with the Indian Insititute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) students about the scope for Chandrayan-II, which he had earlier shared with Isro and Nasa scientists," a scientist working with Dr Kalam, V Ponraj told PTI.

Dr Kalam has suggested the space scientists to create a payload (possibly a robot) that can accompany Chandrayan -II, the project undertaken by Isro. It should have the
capability to land on Moon, and penetrate lunar surface upto one metre depth, Ponraj said.

Kalam said the paylaod should collect samples using spectroscopic instruments to understand the depth of water available on the lunar surface by carrying out experiments, he added.

The Moon Mineralogy Mapper(M3), one of the two instruments that Nasa has contributed for India's first mission to moon Chandrayan-I found OH/H2O on the lunar
surface, Ponraj said. M3 is an imaging spectrometer that will provide first map of lunar surface at high spatial and spectral resolution, revealing the minerals of which it is made.

Over 100 IIM-A students who have opted for GRIIT elective course today attended the lecture, and listened to Dr Kalam's views on how to convert vision into mission, Ponraj said.

Students of this course who were given assignments based on 10 points agenda for development of India by 2020 as part of GRIIT, have submitted 17 proposals to Dr Kalam, which shall be evaluated today, he added.

"The agenda includes how vision can elevate the nation and transform India into a developed country by 2020, based on three pillars - education, sustainable development and how we can avoid terrorism," Ponraj said.

Dr Kalam also shared his experiences with the IIM-A students about the integration of European Union, which is now a congregation of 27 countries, he said.

The course GRIIT was introduced last year at IIM-A, and since then has been a rage amongst the students. The course is spread over 20 sessions, of which around 12 sessions shall be conducted by Dr Kalam, a senior IIM-A professor said.

The remaining sessions shall be conducted by professor Anil Gupta, he added.
