Union minister of state for commerce and industry, Jyotiraditya Scindia has started travelling in a private car without a red-beacon light while touring his constituency, perhaps the only minister in the country to do so.

Besides shunning the red beacon light, considered as a status symbol by the politicians, Scindia also does not take lunch or dinner provided to him in his capacity as a minister. Instead he prefers to carry home-cooked food with him and eats it in the car to save time.

When asked about it here today, Scindia told reporters that he took this step to emulate simple lifestyle followed by Congress general secretary, Rahul Gandhi.

Other reason is his fear that the use of red beacon light could keep many people away from him.
