Jamshedpur: The Jharkhand bandh called by the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha - Prajatantrik (JVM-P)affected normal life in Kolhan region of the state including East Singhbhum district today.

Most of the educational institutes in the Steel City were closed, railway services were disrupted while roads wore a deserted look.

The JVM-P had called the bandh in support of various demands which include that Jharkhand be declared a "famine hit" state.

Most of the shops and business establishments remained closed.

Official sources said no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district so far and the bandh was peaceful.

JVM workers squatted on the railway track at Tatanagar railway station detaining the Howrah-bound Steel Express for over 30 minutes before they were rounded up, sources said.

The bandh supporters also blocked Tata-Badampahar Passenger at Karandih and long-distance Patna-Durh Express, which was detained between Chandil-Gamariah under Chakradharpur division of south eastern railway, sources said.
