Judge Soumitra Sen's lawyer says panel verdict 'expected'

The lawyer of Calcutta high court Judge Soumitra Sen found guilty of misappropriation of large sums of money by a Rajya Sabha panel today said the conclusion was an "expected result."

"This is not unexpected. It is an expected result," Subash Bhattacharya said, noting that the judge had objected to the panel to the Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari, who formed the three-member committee.

Bhattacharya said his client will follow the law and in all probability prove his "innocence" in Parliament.

"I can assure that he will prove his innocence," he added.
