Journalist shot dead in Chhattisgarh

A local journalist was shot dead in the district in the wee hours today by unidentified assailants, police said.

The incident occurred last night when Sushil Pathak, 35, a journalist with Dainik Bhaskar, was returning home from work at around 2 am.

Pathak had parked his car in a nearby street and decided to walk down to his house when the assailants fired at him before fleeing the scene, they said.

Pathak's family was informed about the incident by another journalist, who found him lying on the street in a pool of blood, they said adding after which they immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on admission.

According to police, the assailants fired four bullets on Pathak's head and chest.

Further probe is on to nab the accused, police said adding they are also gathering information from Pathak's family members on whether he had any personal enmity towards anyone.
