Rejecting AIADMK's claims that its leader Jayalalithaa was not being provided adequate security, the Tamil Nadu government today said it was ensuring all requirements as per her 'Z plus' security category.

Informing the Assembly, deputy chief minister M K Stalin said even during Jayalalithaa's recent visits to Villupuram and Neyveli (to spearhead protests), over 1,000 police personnel were posted on security duty.

AIADMK member P K Sekarbabu had on Friday made the charge and demanded Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should own up
responsibility if anything happened to Jayalalithaa since he
held the home department.

Jayalalithaa's security involved round-the-clock vigil at her residence by armed guards with modern weapons besides
personnel to screen her visitors, Stalin said.

"NSG commandos with modern weapons escort her and she
has been provided with bullet-proof vehicle. Regular surveillance is undertaken in the area where her house is located," he said, adding the weapons used by the personnel included self-loading rifles, pistols and MP5 guns.

He said that commissioners and superintendents of police in the state have been directed to provide the same level of security whenever the AIADMK leader visited their cities. She was also being extended this security when she went to Kodaikanal for rest.

Authorities have been asked to do performance audit of personnel posted for her security, Stalin said.
