The Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti has threatened to stop traffic and food, water and oil supply to Delhi while continuing to paralyse the Lucknow-Delhi rail traffic for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday.

The Samiti, demanding reservation in Central government jobs, made the announcement after talks with the Centre failed on Wednesday.

“We are mobilising people to intensify the protest after the Centre failed to take cognisance of our protest and refused to give undertaking to consider our demands,” Samiti head Yashpal Mallick said.

Power generation at the 1,200 MW Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Plant in Khedar in Haryana’s Hisar district has been stopped as railway wagons carrying coal have not been able to reach the plant as the agitators have blocked railway traffic at various places in Haryana.

Over 1,000 Jats have been demonstrating since Saturday disrupting the rail route and forcing more than 30 trains to be cancelled.
