Japan extends Rs2.37 crore aid for NGOs in Maharashtra, Gujarat

Japan has extended a grant assistance to the tune of Rs2.37 crore to five NGOs, three in Maharashtra and two in Gujarat, for numerous health and social welfare projects.

Japan has extended a grant assistance to the tune of Rs2.37 crore (equivalent to USD 532,714) to five NGOs, three in Maharashtra and two in Gujarat, for numerous health and social welfare projects.

The NGOs are Navdeep Pragati Yuvak Mandal (Gujarat), Anjali: Society for Rural Health and Development (Gujarat), Gramin Punrrachana Kendra (Maharashtra), Marathwada Gramin Vikas Sanstha (Maharashtra) and Ugam Gramin Vikas Sanstha (Maharashtra).

The Consul General of Japan in Mumbai, Tamon Mochida recently signed the grant contracts with chief representatives of the NGOS.

Navdeep Mandal received a grant assistance of Rs 45 lakh for construction of hospital, aimed at reducing mortality among tribal population.

NGO Anjali is awarded the assistance of Rs 47 lakh for constructing and equipping a rural hospital for scheduled caste, tribe and Other Backward Classes.

Gramin Punrrachana Kendra was extended grant assistance of Rs47 lakh for construction of a centre for HIV/AIDS orphans and a community centre.

Marathwada Gramin Vikas Sanstha was given the grant of Rs48.28 lakh, also towards construction of a centre for HIV/AIDS orphans and a community centre.

Ugam Sanstha is provided with the assistance of Rs49 lakh for construction of sustainable agriculture and livelihood promotion training centre, a release by the Japanese consulate here said.

Since 1991, the Consulate has sanctioned 81 projects under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects scheme in 5 states in central and western India, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Goa, it said.

The scheme provides flexible and timely assistance to NGOs and non-profitable organisations. Its main scope encompasses primary health care, primary education, poverty alleviation, environment conservation, public welfare and empowerment of women, the release added.
