The youth who died in police custody allegedly due to torture, was cremated here with over 300 people, including activists of BJP and VHP, joining the funeral today.

Rajneesh Sharma, who died in police custody at Srinagar on October 6, was cremated after the locals including VHP activists ended their three days long agitation, following state governments' assurance of proper compensation and two jobs to the victim's family here last evening, official sources said.

Meanwhile, wife of the deceased, Aanchal who belonged to a Muslim family alleged that her parents had been opposing her marriage and hatched the conspiracy of killing her husband and bribed police in getting him eliminated.

Earlier, police had picked Sharma, in connection with the abduction the girl whom he had married, from his brother Pawan Sharma's house in Sarwal area of Jammu on the intervening night of September 29-30.

According to police, three policemen were suspended and a magisterial inquiry was ordered into the custodial death of
the businessman who was found hanging in lock up in Srinagar's Ram Munshi Bagh police station.

However, a second autopsy was conducted in Government Medical College (GMC) hospital here after the family members pointed that his body was bearing torture marks. Anchal, who used to be called Amina earlier, told police that her family in  Kashmir was telling lies that she was under-age.

Anchal said that she was 20-year-old and she had met Rajneesh about seven years ago. Rajneesh used to visit Kashmir in connection with his business and we remained in touch and finally decided to marry, she said, adding, her marriage was
according to her wishes and their was no pressure from any quarter.

"We registered our marriage before Jammu court and solemnised it later at Arya Samaj temple on August 21," she said.

The same day Anchal's father Mohammad Yousuf — a house boat owner - had filed a report with police in valley that his
17-year-old daughter Amina was missing.

On August 25, the police registered a case of kidnapping of a minor and started investigation.
