Jammu Bar Association today held a protest demonstration over introduction of a bill that seeks cancellation of Permanent Resident rights of women of Jammu and Kashmir who marry outside the state.

Led by association president Sunil Sethi, lawyers boycotted courts for the third consecutive day, staged dharna and held demonstrations at the Jammu High court, denouncing Permanent Residents (disqualification) bill.

"This bill is discriminatory to women of the state, particularly of Jammu region. It is anti-Jammu as most of the girls here marry outside the state with persons who are non-state subjectee (non-permanent residents of J-K)," Sethi told reporters here.

The lawyers took out a rally in the complex denouncing the bill which was brought in by PDP member Murtaza Khan in the Legislative Council on March 8 and the government accepted it when it was introduced.

"We will not allow this to happen..., he said, adding "it is a big conspiracy as National Conference, Congress and even BJP are silent over it".

The bill deprives the women right to own and inherit immovable property, get government jobs and other privileges if they marry a person who is non-domicile of Jammu and Kashmir.
