Jammu and Kashmir government today said it would make efforts to introduce a bill during the current session of the state assembly seeking to amend JK Board of School Education (BoSE) Act to meet the requirements of new trends in education at the national level.

"Government would make efforts to bring a bill to amend JK BoSE Act to meet the requirements of new trends in education and the national quality standards", minister for school education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said in reply to a question by MY Tarigami during the Question Hour in the state Assembly.

Tarigami had sought information on the steps taken by the government to amend the BOSE Act to update the provisions to make these compatible with the educational standards at the national and international levels.

Noting that the government would explore the possibility of bringing the amended bill during the current session itself, the Minister said the new Act is under review in consultation with educational experts.

In his supplementaries, Tarigami demanded that the board which is an autonomous body, be streamlined on the pattern of University Grants Commission(UGC).

If the board is following UGC norms in terms of salaries and recruitment why can't the institution be overhauled on the lines of UGC, he asked.
