J&K governor for promotion of Gandhian philosophy for peace, harmony

The governor said that there is a need for strengthening greater unity among the people of all the regions of the state for ensuring a safe and happy future for the coming generations.

Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Saturday stressed on the need to promote Gandhian values among youth in the state for establishing peace and tranquility.

"There is a need for planned initiatives to promote Gandhian values and philosophy to create greater awareness among the younger generation about the Mahatma's teachings of peace, harmony, tolerance, brotherhood, secularism and non-violence," the governor said while interacting with a 27-member delegation of noted Gandhian workers at Raj Bhavan here.

Referring to the situation in the state for the past over 20 years, the governor said that there is a need for strengthening greater unity among the people of all the regions of the state for ensuring a safe and happy future for the coming generations.

He said that the message of Gandhiji is more relevant today than ever before for establishing lasting peace and tranquility in the state.

The governor said that a well considered calendar of activities needs to be formulated for creating awareness about Gandhiji's life and philosophy and the role played by Baba Amte and other Gandhian workers for connecting the hearts of people.
