The vigilance squad of the state director general of police (DGP) is exploring the possibility of hawala funds being routed to fund the cricket satta racket run by Dinesh Kalgi.

Sources said that the vigilance squad is busy checking the records stored in the laptop of Lakhu Sindhi who was nabbed by the squad on Saturday. A highly-placed source told DNA, "We are exploring all possibilities with regard to the racket. However, it will take some time as the records stored on the laptop of Lakhu are being checked."

The vigilance squad has also roped in experts of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to study the records stored on Lakhu's computer. An official of the department said, "FSL experts have been roped in. It will take some time to study the records. Everything will be clear only then."

Officials of the department had raided the bungalow of Lakhu in Manekbaugh and seized two laptops allegedly containing information about the betting on the India-Pakistan match. Lakhu was arrested along with his nephew Dipak from the spot by officials.

Officials of the vigilance squad said that once these records are studied, more leads can be obtained for the investigators. An official said, "The investigation is in the initial stages.

We will also be studying the phone records of the accused to know whether they have made calls outside the country to run the racket." Officials have also seized the passport of the accused, sources said.

DNA had earlier reported that there are at least 15 bookies in Ahmedabad. Around 200 bookies operate under them. The number of bookies operating in the city has gone down drastically due to the increased police vigilance.
