Investigations on increasing number of cyber crime has become a 'real challenge', since it has crossed transnational boundaries, a top official in the Data Secuity Council of India (DSCI), a self-regulatory organisation promoted by Nasscom to promote culture of cyber security, said today.

With more people falling prey to financial and individual cyber crimes of late due to larger penetration of mobile phones and computers, the council wanted to create a cyber awareness, and also enhance data protection and privacy along with cyber security in India, Pratap Reddy, inspector general and director, DSCI told reporters here.

Reddy, was here as part of an awareness campaign on cyber security for police officials, said the initiative by Chennai police and Nasscom, which started a year ago, has been widened, and made as 'Cyber-safe Tamil Nadu' and concentrating on Tier-II cities of the country.

Stating that the council has already trained more than 8,000 persons, including 6,000 police personnel, he said it had plans to start cyber labs in Chennai and Hyderabad with the help of state CB-CID on the lines of those in Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune and Thane.
