The Delhi police is planning to write to the Interpol seeking details of Syed Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal’s Pakistani SIM card. When Jundal was arrested in Saudi Arabia last year, the police had recovered four SIM cards from him, including one Pakistani and three SIM cards from Saudi Arabia.

The special cell of Delhi police has seized all the four SIM cards. “Jundal was using the Pakistani SIM card during his stay there and he used to communicate with the operatives of Lashkar-e-Toiba with this SIM card,” said a police officer.

The SIM card is registered in the name of Riyasat Ali, which was Jundal’s assumed name in Pakistan. In fact, his Pakistani passport is also in the same name and he had travelled from Pakistan to Saudi using the same passport.

The special cell of Delhi police will soon be writing a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is the nodal agency for Interpol in India. In the letter, the Delhi police is going to ask CBI to get in touch with the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA), which is CBI’s counterpart in Pakistan.

Based on Jundal’s interrogation so far, the police feel that the details of the SIM will reveal a lot of information.
“Jundal claims that he was using this SIM card right through his three-year stay in Pakistan. He even continued to use the SIM card even while he was in Saudi,” the officer said. The call details and other records of the SIM card will reveal a mine of information, the police feel.

However, the police are not too optimistic. “We do not know how much the FIA will co-operate and how much information they will reveal. Jundal claims that he was using this SIM card to stay in touch with Lashkar operatives and if the operatives are high profile individuals then, there is little hope that the Pakistani authorities will part with the information,” said a source.

Meanwhile, the investigators have already managed to get all the details of the other three SIM cards which Jundal was using in Saudi Arabia. “The details of the Saudi SIM cards were obtained through diplomatic channels. We are current analysing the call records and other details of the SIM card,” the officer said.
