Tabla maestro and founder of Saptak School of Music, Shri Nandan Mehta, 68, passed away at 2.40am on Friday. Mehta is survived by wife Manju Mehta, two daughters — Poorvi, a sitarist, and Hetal, a tabla-trainer. Since early in the morning, eminent artists and thousands of music lovers gathered at his residence to have the last glimpse of the noted musician.

Saptak's members and prominent persons of the city
were present at the funeral site to console the bereaved family members.

Sources said that Nandanbhai's brainchild, Saptak Music Festival, would continue to take place every year, in keeping with Mehta's last words -"Yeh sab chalta rahega, kyonki mere bachche etne layak hein".

Music connoisseurs from the city echoed that the next year's annual festival of music, organised by Saptak from January 1 to 13 every year, should be dedicated to Mehta.

The popularity of Saptak is attributed to Mehta's commitment and his close relationships with noted artists and musicians of the country. "Saptak's glory is the result of the painstaking efforts and unparalleled zeal of Nandan Mehta," admit his followers.
