With the arrival of New Year, and the upbeat moods of Uttarayan still lingering, students of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) have even a better reason to celebrate. The lateral placements, which began in the institute in December, are already showing promising signs.

The lateral placements had started in December last year. As much as 10 job offers have already been made till now with many of them for top managerial levels. Though, a number of companies from almost every sector have been coming to the campus to interact with the students and interview them, consultancy sector has been dominating the scene till now.

An optimistic mood hangs in the air as the students discuss amongst themselves about how the placement is developing this season. "Compared to last year, the momentum of placement this year is good. The way this placement season is taking shape, it seems the overall placements will meet our expectations this year," said a student.

"Many students on the campus have already started getting job offers. Many of these jobs are of top managerial level," he added.
However, IIMA faculty, Saral Mukherjee, who is head of the placement committee in the IIMA, said that it was too early to comment on the placement. "The placements have just started," Mukherjee said.

The lateral placement of the IIMA is part of the institute's final placement. This placement accommodates only those students who have a minimum of two years of working experience. While the students of institute's one-year diploma programme and post-graduate programme for executives (PGPX) are eligible to take part in this placement, students of other programmes can participate if they already have at least two-year or more of working experience. The placements, which generally start by the December-end, often last for around three months.
