Born in 1957 in Mumbai, brought up in Ahmedabad, Rajiv Vastupal, CMD of Rajiv Petrochemicals Pvt. Ltd., had always dreamt of becoming a successful entrepreneur. Vastupal was born into a cloth merchant’s house but lost his father when he was in his teens.

Along the way, on his journey from having a job to owning a business, Vastupal realised that the team’s strength and unity are the core sources of success. He opens up on life, business and more…

My spiritual life begins with yoga. Without exceptions, everyday I wake up at 5.30 am and practice yoga. I am an exercise freak and exercise keeps me fit. Exercise and yoga always rank higher on my priority list than any other work.

Even if I go overseas and return at midnight, I ensure that I wake up early next morning for yoga. I simply love it.
I also like reading books. I have read the Bhagvad Gita several times. I am a Jain and during morning pooja, I pray and read the Navkar Mantra. Initially, whenever I would travel by air, I made sure that I read the Navkar Mantra during the take off and landing.

I was scared at that time. Now, thanks to the Navkar Mantra, the fear is long gone.

I was born in Mumbai and brought up in Ahmedabad. My father was a cloth merchant, while my grandfather was a mill owner. I did my schooling from Sharda Mandir Vidyalaya and completed my bachelor's degree with commerce from HL College. After graduation, I also passed my intermediate exams of ICWA and simultaneously completed my LLB course.

I eventually ended up joining a company as an executive. However, accidentally, I got the opportunity to start my own business and grabbed it with both hands. Today, the turnover of my business is around Rs550 crore.

For my success, I want to give credit to my inspiration-God, who guided me in my thought process, and most importantly, my team. The professionals who supported me in starting my business are with me even today. I am lucky to have this hard-working and innovative unit as my team. We have named the group, Team Rajiv.

At present, my wife helps me in my business while my elder daughter Niyati has started her own business of event management.  My younger daughter, Ayushi, is still studying.

I wished my daughters would take active interest in my business. Since the elder one chose not to do so, I now expect my younger daughter to participate in it.
