A middle-aged woman has been arrested for allegedly cheating people to the tune of several lakhs of rupees for selling a house owned by her.

A middle-aged woman has been arrested for allegedly cheating people to the tune of several lakhs of rupees for selling a house owned by her.

Police today said, Sangita Agarwalla of Chhend colony of the city was arrested after a series of complaints was lodged against her by the local people.

A complainant, Jogiraj Gupta, who had paid an advance of Rs1.5 lakhs to Agarwalla to purchase the house, lodged an FIR with the police saying he had been cheated by her.

Soon after, the police came to know that several other people had also paid advance to her to purchase the same house.

Agarwala was remanded to jail custody by the judicial magistrate today.

Sangita had also allegedly collected huge amount from the people assuring them admission of their children in foreign institutions, the sources said.
