Hotels gear up to offer healthy service

With the state registering its second swine flu death on Tuesday, hotels in the city are busy taking precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.

With the state registering its second swine flu death on Tuesday, hotels in the city are busy taking precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.

These steps include educating employees about the disease, its spread and need to ensure frequent check of those who handle food in the hotels.

Moreover, hotels are also advising employee to follow specific operational procedures like using gloves and masks if confronted with a confirmed case of swine flu.

"Earlier all food items that was brought into the hotel premises went through a cleanliness check. But now these items will also have to go through a medical testing Also, during our routine morning check up for our staff, if a person is found to be suffering from cold, the employee will be sent back home," said Col. SK Varni, general manager, Cama Hotel.

"Guests have been segregated throughout the hotel, instead of being restricted to one floor, limiting contact between humans to a large extent," said Varni.

So far hotels have not received any directive from the centre. "We are internally carrying out measures to ensure the safety of our staff and guests," said Kiran Chauhan, security manager, Fortune Landmark.

Hotels are also urging guests and employees to stay informed, vigilant and follow precautionary measures.

Karnavati Club is sending Medisearch pamphlets informing about swine flu to all its members and also plan to feature an article on swine flu symptoms, precautions and causes in their in-house magazine which will be accessible to all its members.

"We are providing our guests with safety information issued by the authorities and encouraging them to follow these guidelines to remain safe" said Viraj Shah, vice president, Karnavati Club.

"We are taking a number of precautions like thorough sanitisation of hotel rooms, ensuring guests' location before registration and informing our staff about swine flu and its symptoms. Other steps in this regard will also be followed," said Shipra Simbly, assistant director, sales, Le Meridian.
