Himachal Pradesh govt unaware about 'clean chit' given to Karmapa

'We have come to know from the media reports that the Centre has given a clean chit to the Karmapa but we have not received any official intimation from the Union government,' chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said .

Himachal Pradesh government today said it has not received any information from the Centre regarding any 'clean chit' given to the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorji in connection with the recovery of foreign currency.

"We have come to know from the media reports that the Centre has given a clean chit to the Karmapa but we have not received any official intimation from the Union government," chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said while replying to a question during the question hour.

He said that neither the Centre is under any obligation to inform the state about it nor is it desirable on the part of the state to seek any information.

The state government would not ask the Centre about it but the Union government can part with relevant information if it wished to do so, he added.

Dhumal told the House that seven persons, Sanjog Dutt, Ashutosh, Shakti Lama, Karma Kunke Khampa, Rinzin Wango, KP Bharadwaj and D K Dhar have been arrested in connection with recovery of the foreign currency.

The chief minister said that foreign currencies of 24 countries, including China and the US, had been recovered during the raids by the security agencies at Guyto monastery complex.

Besides 12,01,97 Chinese Yuan, $6,47,396 and 6900 UD dollars, travellers' cheques, 6,42,740 Hongkong dollars, 742,900 Taiwanese dollars, 4,21,892 Nepalese rupees and Indian currency worth Rs53,65,265, the currencies of Singapore, Australia, UK, Bhutan, Indonesia, Germany and some other countries had been recovered during the raids, he said.
