High prices mar Diwali

Mathiya, chakli and other farsan food are going to cost more this Diwali even if they are prepared at home. This will be surprising news to many people who may have assumed that retail prices of food items would be low this year because of the low inflation rate.

The inflation rate on Thursday was 0.92% but there is still no sign that food prices are about to collapse. The retail price chart (refer table) of necessary food items in Ahmedabad reveals that, but for edible oil, most items are costlier in the city this Diwali.
