Heat wave claims five lives in Gujarat

Idar in Sabarkantha district recorded 46.5 degrees Celsius -- the highest temperature in the state, as the heat wave continued to sweep the northern region, a Met official said.

Heat wave conditions claimed five lives in different parts of the state today, officials said.

"Two deaths were recorded in Sabarkantha district, while one each was reported from Banaskantha, Mehsana and Ahmedabad today," Health department officials said.

Idar in Sabarkantha district recorded 46.5 degrees Celsius -- the highest temperature in the state, as the heat wave continued to sweep the northern region, a Met official said.

Yesterday, Idar recorded 48.5 degree Celsius, the highest ever maximum temperature reported in the state so far, he added.

The entire state was reeling under a severe heat wave, with Deesa recording a maximum of 46 degrees Celsius, followed by 45.6 degree in Vallabh Vidya Nagar and 45.5 degree in the city.
