H1N1 claims one in Vadodara

A 46-year-old man died due to swine flu at SSG hospital in Vadodara on Thursday. Rohit Patel, a resident of Makarpura was working as a sanitary inspector at Pavi-Jetpur PHC. Patel's relatives blamed the hospital authorities for negligence.

With this, the total number of deaths due to H1N1 virus in Vadodara has reached 6. Patel showed symptoms of swine flu three days ago and consulted a private doctor. He was later admitted to a private hospital for treatment. When his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to SSG hospital. His blood sample was sent with a request for an urgent report. The medical investigations confirmed that he was H1N1 positive. But his condition got critical and he succumbed on Thursday noon. Relatives of the victim performed funeral procession wearing special body suits.

Talking to DNA, Jitubhai Patel, a relative of the victim said, “There was some malfunctioning in the ventilator and it was not functioning properly. The staff members did not take proper care of the patient too." Patel's family consists of his wife and two children.
