It's December and time for college students across the city to have their 'Days,' which will be celebrated till January. But this year's celebration appears to lack the usual excitement which one used to see earlier.

"There must be an element of fun during the Days, but as you can see we are just wandering around wearing white T-shirts as it is Peace Day," expressed a student of HL College of Commerce without much enthusiasm. Along with her, many other students have asked for a relaxation in the celebration of Days. "We don't mind if some one gives us rose or balloon… what is the big deal about this?," (Peace Day)  said a first-year girl seeking anonymity.

To add some fun, some girls outside the campus were seen with heart shaped balloons, which had nothing to do with Peace Day.
It is worthy to note that Gujarat University (GU) officials have banned Rose Day and Chocolate Day to safeguard girls in the college, but it seems now that the girls do not want such restrictions, following the notification by GU, which prohibits celebration of Days like Tapori Day, Chocolate Day, Rose Day among others  this year.

In addition, the officials at GU suggested some alternatives for such days such as world peace day, environment day, Nirmal Gujarat day, etc. Adhering to such guidelines, colleges have summoned the respective student representatives and told them to follow the new norms. HLCC and other prominent city colleges will follow the instructions.

But students' disagreement can be seen on their faces as according to them there is no fun attached to days like 'support a cause' days. This rule is not applicable to colleges under Ahmedabad University or Gujarat Technical University. A student of HLCC said, "Neighbouring college students are having fun as their colleges do not come under GU and we at the same time feel helpless."

Girls feel that since the colleges they are studying in have such a good reputation there is no need of implementing restrictions.
